Munnar sees rare weather pattern as mercury dips to sub-zero levels again

The temperature dropped back to below zero on Saturday at Munnar, a hill station in Idukki, after a one-month relief. At Chenduvarai and Silent Valley on Saturday morning, the lowest temperature of the month was -1°C.

For the past three days, the hill station has been experiencing cold weather. At Seven Malai and Letchmi estate, the lowest temperature ever recorded on Thursday was minus 0 degrees Celsius. At Letchmi estate, the lowest temperature on Friday was 0 degrees Celsius. Additionally, subzero temperatures are anticipated to stay the same in the coming days, according to the sources.

The tourism industry will benefit from the continuation of subzero temperatures during the second week of the month. However, it will adversely affect plants and crops that are sensitive to temperature. Tea, vegetables, fruits, and other crops are affected in Munnar.
