Modhera in Gujarat is India's first 24x7 solar-powered village

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 9th October declared Modhera, a village in the Mehsana district of Gujrat as India's first 24×7 solar powered village. This step has been taken by the Prime Minister for promoting clean energy. Modhera is famous for the Sun Temple which is located on the banks of the Pushpavati river. After declaring the village as the first to be completely solar-powered, added that, "Modhera, which is associated with the Sun Temple will also be known for its strides in solar energy. Big day for Modhera as it takes a giant leap towards harnessing solar power. Now, the people of Modhera need not pay for electricity but they can start selling it and earning from it. Till a while back, the government used to supply electricity to citizens but now, with the installation of solar panels, citizens will produce their own electricity”.

Assembly Elections are about to be held in Gujarat and the ruling BJP is facing headwinds as it tries to retain power in Modi's home state. Steps like these could benefit the elections as well, although, the overall mood and fervour of the voting population will be the prime gamechanger.
