Yet another winter's coldwave continues to grip northern India with dense fog covering NCR and its surrounding areas. As per India Meteorological Department(IMD) data, Delhi recorded its lowest daytime temperature of this season on Thursday. According to IMD's released statement, there were instances of very dense fog in isolated areas of Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, dense fog was observed in certain pockets of Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu, and West Madhya Pradesh.
Flights disrupted
Due to low visibility, Indigo's flight operations in three cities i.e., Jaipur, Patna and Amritsar have been affected due to severe fog in northern India, the airline said its post on X today. Airlines have advised passengers to check on the status of flights on airlines before departing for the airport. Passengers who arrived at the airport and were unaware of the delays were left sitting on the floor, waiting for updates from the airline. Some of the flights are cancelled on account of weather bad constraints-- IXC PNQ 681/ STD 2215hrs, IXC JAI 7413/ STD 2100hrs, IXC CCU 6041 /STD 2045 Hrs, IXC. AMD 6395 /STD 1915 Hrs.

22 Trains Delayed
According to Indian Railways, as many as 22 Delhi-bound trains arrived late on 4 Jan 2024. On Friday morning, Delhi's main railway station 'Safdarjung' recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4 degrees Celsius, which is 2.5 degrees Celsius colder than normal.
As of now, an orange alert has been issued for Delhi for the day with shallow to moderate fog and cold day conditions likely at a few places. The AQI is recorded today as 349. Due to dense fog, IMD has issued a public health advisory warning about lung-related health impacts
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), some parts of Punjab, Haryana Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are likely to experience cold day to severe cold day conditions for the next two days, after which the intensity is expected to decrease. Additionally, the plains of Northwest and East India may experience dense to very dense fog for the next two days, which is expected to gradually decrease thereafter.
