India's Largest Tiger Reserve to be established in Damoh, MP

The Central government has given its approval to merge two wildlife sanctuaries in Madhya Pradesh, paving the way for the creation of the largest tiger reserve in the country, spanning 2,300 square kilometres.

The Union government has officially approved the proposal to amalgamate the Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in central Madhya Pradesh encompassing portions of Sagar, Damoh, Narsinghpur, and Raisen districts, with the Rani Durgavati Wildlife Sanctuary in the Damoh district of the state, according to a forest department official, as reported by ANI on Sunday.

Officials have stated that the department is actively working on a plan to make the new tiger reserve operational within the next two to three months. According to Damoh's Forest Divisional Officer, MS Uikey, the establishment of the new tiger reserve will not only serve as a secure habitat for the existing tiger population of 16 in the area but will also contribute to the growth of tourism and development in the region. Uikey, as quoted by ANI, mentioned that the reserve is expected to enhance the local economy by attracting both domestic and international tourists.
