Wildlife photographer Kittiya Pawlowski trekked almost 165 kilometres to take pictures of the highly prestigious Snow Leopards. The US-based photographer took to Instagram to share her journey to the remote Khumbu Valley in Nepal, where she was fortunate enough to take pictures of the Snow Leopards. And what beautifully astonishing pictures she took!
Snow leopards are said to be extremely rare to spot. They are native to central and south Asian mountain ranges. They are also listed as vulnerable in the IUCN Red List. There are said to be less than 10,000 mature Snow Leopards alive. To this date, very few people have gotten the chance to spot these shy cats.
Kittiya Pawlowski shared the pictures she took on her Instagram account @girlcreature where she outlines her journey and stated that her first sign of the elusive Snow Leopard was a paw print.
She also states how she backpacked for 103 miles (about 166 km). She finishes off by writing “Squinting through my camera’s telephoto lens, I noticed something in the shadow of Mount Pumori. At first, I thought it was a rock, but it was exactly what I was looking for.”
In her other posts about the Snow Leopards, she writes how she woke up at 4 am as Snow Leopards are most active during dawn and dusk. In another picture, she captions “ After walking through Earth’s most forbidding terrain, lung-starving altitudes, soaring peaks, and high deserts—this was the most difficult and rewarding set of photos I’ve ever taken.”
Many people commented on her pictures applauding her, few of the comments read “amazing the best picture of a snow leopard. it seems like from another planet more of a sci-fi movie set.” “Courage is a great blessing. Not everyone has. You and this leopard, both have. Good luck to you.” “These pictures are so good.. that it’s disturbing. How do you top this? One for the ages... Just mind-blowing!” “This is one of the most spectacular pictures I have come across. The sheer scale of the Himalayas is no match for the elusive Leopard, as it trudges along the snow ridge line throwing up mists of snow!”
Her photos are shared by various prestigious organisations, including Animal Planet and the Embassy of Nepal. The photos since then have grown very popular among wildlife enthusiasts and others.
According to her posts, she clicked the pictures on the 9th of October. Kittiya Pawlowski is an award-winning photographer and is also selling prints of her beautifully captured pictures on her website https://kittiyapawlowski.com/
