Does Arunachal Pradesh have an airport? It does now!!
Donyi Polo Airport, the first Greenfield airport, located in Itanagar's Hollongi, was unveiled by PM Narendra Modi on Saturday. This would improve connectivity and the travel industry in northeastern India.
The terminal, which would be located around 15 kilometres from the state capital Itanagar, will connect the border state with other Indian towns via commercial planes as well as other regions of Arunachal by helicopter transportation.
According to an official announcement, the airport, which is the first new airport in Arunachal, was constructed over a 690-acre territory for a price of more than 640 crores.
“The airport terminal is a modern building, which promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy, and the recycling of resources. Donyi Polo Airport will be the third operational airport for Arunachal Pradesh, taking the total airport count in the Northeast region to 16," the official announcement stated.
Between 1947 and 2014, roughly nine air stations were built in the northeast. The current government has now constructed seven of them in the Northeast in a limited eight-year period. The airport, as claimed by the PMO, would not only boost productivity in the area but will also act as a catalyst for the growth of trade and tourism, thereby promoting the economic and social growth of the area.
Itanagar was the only capital of India that lacked an aviation connection. The Himalayan state of Arunachal Pradesh, which shares borders with Myanmar to the east and Tibet to the north, has been witnessing a rapid shift during the past few years.
Arunachal Pradesh will transform into one of the largest well-connected states in the nation and this success can be attributed to a number of infrastructure projects, including the building of highways, rail lines, and airports.
PM Modi also presented the nation with the 600 MW Kameng Hydro Power Station. The project, which cost $8,450 crore to establish, intends to make Arunachal a state with an abundance of electricity. The project will assist the National Grid in aspects of grid stability and integration and is consistent with India's aim to move toward green energy projects.
The event was attended by Pema Khandu, the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, and Kiren Rijiju, the union minister of law.
