Air India has revealed new uniforms for its cabin crew and pilots, designed by renowned Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra. The uniforms were unveiled on December 12 and will be introduced gradually over the next few months. The female cabin crew will wear ombre sarees with a modern twist, featuring intricate jharokha patterns and the new Air India logo icon. The sarees can be worn with comfortable pants, providing flexibility for the crew to choose their preferred style. Senior female cabin crew will wear aubergine-to-burgundy sarees, while junior crew members will wear vibrant red-to-purple sarees. The cockpit crew will don traditional black suits with a print based on the Air India logo, while the male cabin crew will wear bandhgalas.
Manish Malhotra aimed to create uniforms that capture the essence of India's diverse culture and traditions while also embodying a modern and sophisticated look. The designer expressed his honour at being given the opportunity to design the uniforms for Air India and his desire to showcase the elegance and charm of Indian fashion. Air India's CEO and Managing Director, Campbell Wilson, believes that the new uniforms will script an exciting new chapter for the airline and perfectly capture its new identity and service principles.
Apart from the outfits, Manish Malhotra has chosen the crew's footwear. Male and female cabin staff personnel will be dressed in casual black brogues and dual-tone block heels, respectively. For the female cabin crew, the costumes also include sling bags and pearl earrings.
It is worth noting that Manish Malhotra has also designed uniforms for Air India's ground staff, engineers, and security personnel, but these have yet to be unveiled. Overall, the new uniforms aim to blend traditional Indian elements with a modern and sophisticated look, reflecting the airline's commitment to showcasing India's culture and setting new benchmarks in global aviation.
