In order to increase tourism and economic growth, Indonesia is thinking of allowing citizens of 20 nations—including the US, China, Australia, India, South Korea, Germany, Britain, and France—to enter the country without a visa. This was announced on Thursday by the country's tourism minister.
A statement from the administration stated that the list of nations covered by the provision will be finalized in less than a month. According to Minister Sandiaga Uno, the president has directed the administration to examine the possibility of waiving visas to stimulate investment, tourism, and the economy. Official data indicates that before the outbreak in 2019, there were over 16 million international visitors in Indonesia.
9.49 million foreign visitors came to Indonesia between January and October of this year, up 124.3% over the same period in 2022.
After Singapore announced on Thursday that a 30-day reciprocal visa exemption with China will be put into effect early in 2019, Indonesia is the most recent nation in Southeast Asia to contemplate lifting visa requirements for China, a significant tourism market. Visa requirements for travelers from China and India have recently been eliminated by Malaysia and Thailand.
