What is "Grogu"? Google's AirTag Alternative

Tech enthusiasts are in anticipation of Google’s “Grogu”, a smart tracking device similar to Apple's AirTag’. Kuba Wojciechowski revealed that “Grogu” was the codename of the tracker and is being developed by Nest Team.

The miniature tracking device gets its name from the Star Wars character ‘Grogu’ aka Baby Yoda from the tv show Mandalorian.

Google is working on a distributor network and might call it ‘Finder Network’ and use Bluetooth LE and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology which increases the preciseness in detecting location.

Google launched its UWB tech in its premium phone segment from the Pixel 6 Pro and this tracker is expected to use the UWB tech to its potential.

The tracker is expected to include a speaker for audio-based tracking.

The tracker is expected to be launched in a range of minimalist pastel colours, unlike AirTag which is available only in white.

While enthusiasts are excited about the new Google product, the precise location-detecting capabilities of the product raise the question of individual privacy and data collection.
