Today’s Google Doodle delights in India's Iconic street food 'Pani Puri'

In 2015, a restaurant in Indore, Madhya Pradesh created 51 different flavours of pani puri, setting a world record. Today, Google is recognizing this achievement and India's continued passion for pani puri with an interactive and colourful Doodle. Pani puri is a well-liked, small-sized snack known by various names and enjoyed in different ways across India. It typically involves a crispy, fried flatbread (the puri) filled with a combination of flavoured water (the pani) and a dry filling.

In Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, pani puri is typically filled with boiled chickpeas, a mixture of white peas, and sprouts. It is then dipped in tangy and spicy-flavoured water. In Delhi, Punjab, and other northern states, this popular street food is called gol gappas. Gol gappas are a popular Indian street food that is typically filled with a mixture of mashed potatoes, chickpeas, and other spices. They are then dipped in tangy and refreshing water that is flavoured with mint, cilantro, tamarind, and spices. In Bihar and Jharkhand, the snack is referred to as puchkas or fuchkas, where the main ingredient is tamarind pulp. With its diverse flavours and widespread popularity across India, pani puri has gained millions of fans. There is one commonly followed rule when enjoying pani puri: consume it all at once to avoid it becoming soggy.
