Threads, the social media platform created by Meta, is said to be adding a new feature similar to Twitter's Direct Messaging (DMs). This means users can send private messages to each other on the platform. At first, Instagram's CEO, Adam Mosseri, said that Threads would not have this feature anytime soon. It seems that users are not choosing Meta's other apps like Messenger or Instagram for these private discussions. Recently, an internal memo from Instagram was leaked and reported by Business Insider. The memo suggests that DMs will be added to Threads in the near future.
The addition of DMs to Threads will provide users with the option to have private conversations about sensitive topics they prefer not to discuss publicly. Before this feature, users had to use other apps for such private chats. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently shared his thoughts on Threads' future direction in a thread on the platform. He expressed optimism about how the Threads community is coming together, even though it's still in the early stages. Zuckerberg mentioned that the initial growth of Threads has been impressive, with tens of millions of people returning to the platform daily. This indicates a positive trend for Threads, surpassing their expectations.
Zuckerberg highlighted that the next important task for Threads is to ensure daily engagement from millions of users. He emphasized the significance of enhancing the platform's basics and user retention, recognizing that achieving stability might require some time. Once these foundational aspects are strengthened, the focus will shift towards expanding the Threads community.
