Siri will get a makeover using Generative AI in iOS 18

Apple is reportedly planning to introduce iOS 18 for iPhone at this year's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), a much-awaited update. Apple is about to embark on a major venture into artificial intelligence (AI), deviating from its conventional strategy and concentrating on generative AI, according to a recent Financial Times report.

There are rumours that the centrepiece of iOS 18 will be a redesigned Siri, which will be enabled by Apple's Large Language Models (LLMs), which may go by the name AppleGPT. Apple has adopted a more cautious stance, painstakingly honing its AI technology behind the scenes, while rivals like Google and Samsung have already heavily incorporated AI into their handsets.

The all-new Apple update

The report claims that generative AI will power the next Siri version. The journal was reportedly informed by Igor Jablokov, the founder of Yap and CEO of AI Pryon, that "they tend to hang back and wait until there is a confluence of technology, and they can offer one of the finest representations of that technology."

Furthermore, according to analyst Jeff Pu, Apple has been hinting at its AI goals. He predicts that generative AI will begin to appear in iPhones and iPads in late 2024. Apple is developing about 100 AI servers this year, with plans to build more in 2024, to support this programme. This indicates a move towards cloud-based AI. Furthermore, it has been reported that Apple is working on "edge AI," or on-device artificial intelligence.

The company intends to integrate AI into various applications, with possible advancements throughout its ecosystem. Auto-generated playlists might be added to Apple Music, and productivity apps like Keynote and Pages might get a feature that automatically creates slide decks. Additionally, it has been stated that Apple is looking for ways to improve customer support services for AppleCare by integrating generative AI.
