Samsung aims to create chips specifically for XR devices

According to reports, Samsung is preparing to create chips for XR (Extended Reality) gadgets as the business plans on launching a new XR headset later this year or in the first half of 2024.

The Korea Economic Daily reports that the company's aspirations to enter the market for XR gadget chips are currently gaining physical form.

Processors for XR devices are currently being developed by the Samsung System LSI division, which also makes ISOCELL photo sensors and Exynos processors.

The company also intends to take on Qualcomm and Google in competition.

Additionally, according to the source, the corporation might create entirely new chips or alter existing ones to work with XR gadgets.

The chipsets are responsible for running the operating system, running apps, processing sensor data, and detecting user motion.

Rich data may be projected over reality using XR devices to enable activities like live language translation, realistic meetings, and navigation, according to the report.

Counterpoint Research estimates that sales of XR devices might increase from the present 18 million units annually to over 110 million units by 2025.

The XR gadget market will grow from $13.9 billion in 2022 to $50.9 billion in 2025, according to IDC, another market researcher.
