Palm-based payments are introduced by Tencent in China

The capacity to make payments using the palm of the user's hand has been introduced to the Chinese market by the digital giant Tencent. The trial was conducted at Beijing Capital International Airport, where WeChat Pay allows tube riders to enter trains by paying with their palms. Simply scan your palm at the specialized terminals in the metro station to start the palm recognition function. At the entrance to the tube, customers merely place their open hand over a scanner to instantly pay for the ticket using their WeChat account. The technique was created by the artificial intelligence startup YouTu and is based on the identification of the surface of the palm combined with the veins of the hand.

It reads, "We have made the new technology more senior-friendly and accessible to people with disabilities in our effort to improve performance and simplify the user experience." Tencent intends to make this payment option available in restaurants, grocery shops, and other establishments. In a nation where face recognition payments have been accessible for years and biometric data theft is pervasive, the new payment method has drawn criticism on social media from people worried about user privacy. Others like how quick and easy it is, and how it makes it possible to pay even with a dead mobile phone battery. It's important to note that 90% of mobile payments in China are made through WeChat and AliPay.
