Nicolas Basbanes and Nicholas Gauge, two authors, have sued OpenAI and Microsoft, saying that the companies used their work without permission to train AI models, like the popular chatbot ChatGPT. The authors say their rights were violated when their books were used as training data for OpenAI's GPT language model.
Multiple lawsuits have been brought by fiction and nonfiction writers against tech companies for allegedly using their work to train AI programmes.Additionally, the New York Times recently sued OpenAI and Microsoft for using the work of its writers without paying them. Former reporters Basbanes and Gauge say it's not fair that their work is being used to power a billion-dollar business without paying them.
