Soon after Apple introduced its first Mixed Reality headset, the Vision Pro, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg reviewed it and stated that the "Quest 3 is the better product, despite being seven times less expensive." It might be somewhat accurate because the Quest 3 weighs 120 grams less than the Vision Pro and has a pass-through capability with a similar high resolution.
Meta appears to be taking on the Vision Pro with a new UI upgrade for the Quest 3, which will have a personalized user interface. During a recent Instagram live "Ask me anything" session, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth stated that while he did not want to reveal too many specifics about the update, users will be able to pin windows to allow them to follow them around and anchor them in real space. This implies that, like the Vision Pro, users of Meta Quest 3 will be able to walk around, perform household tasks, and affix a window to the wall.

While the present version of Quest UI allows you to accomplish some of these things, Bosworth claims the future UI update will "make things feel comfortable and clear." The Quest headset's typing experience will be enhanced by the upgrade, according to Meta CTO during the AMA session. Users will be able to utilize all of their fingers to type by pinning the virtual keyboard to a table.
Additionally, it appears that Meta is developing the capability to communicate with and operate adjacent objects, such as smart plugs, lighting, and other networked appliances. Bosworth mentioned in passing how casting and streaming will create new avenues for content consumption on Quest headsets. He went on to verify that the Quest 3, like the Quest 2 and Quest Pro, will also have a "lying down mode."
The Quest UI update is expected to be released later this year, most likely when Meta unveils the highly anticipated Quest Pro 2 headset, which is expected to have more features than the Vision Pro. However, there is no information on when this update will be available.
Apple launched the Vision Pro in the US last month. At launch, the "Spatial computer," running on VisionOS, boasts over 600 programs created just for the headset. The Vision Pro uses a combination of hand and eye tracking, allowing users to explore the user interface hands-free, while the Quest 3 requires users to use controllers to navigate around the interface.
