SpaceX created a giant steel structure, 400 feet long and weighing 250 tonnes, with two big arms called chopsticks. They launched a rocket, and when the booster returned, Mechazilla’s giant chopstick arms caught it mid-air .
This incredible feat was part of SpaceX’s fifth test flight of the Super Heavy-Starship rocket . The Super Heavy booster, equipped with 33 Raptor engines, launched from SpaceX’s Boca Chica, Texas, facility . After separating from the Starship upper stage, the booster flipped around and headed back to the launch pad, where Mechazilla’s arms successfully caught it .
This marked a significant milestone in SpaceX’s goal of achieving rapid reusability for rockets, potentially saving millions of dollars in launch costs . Elon Musk mentioned that by next year, they might try to catch the main rocket ship . This initiative could change the entire economy of space travel, making it more efficient and sustainable.
