Two former Apple executives founded Humane, a startup that is getting ready to release the first wearable smartphone substitute. Known as AI Pin, the gadget was unveiled by the company at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month.
For those who are unaware, Humane's AI Pin is essentially a stand-alone phone that has the ability to make calls and a projector that can show an interface similar to a smartphone on any surface. The gadget, which resembles half of a flip phone, is affixed to your clothing magnetically.
According to information released by Time Magazine, which mentioned AI Pin as one of the "Best Inventions of 2023" prior to the device's release, and which also provided additional details about the impending wearable, AI Pin will reportedly use a "mix of proprietary software and OpenAI's GPT" to allow users to send and receive texts, make phone calls, and ask sophisticated voice-activated questions. Still unknown, though, is whether Humane will choose the GPT-3.5 or the
A built-in camera on the wearable will also be able to detect objects and estimate calories when it scans a food item. The gadget is said to have a "Trust Light" that will illuminate when it is actively using the camera, microphone, or other sensors if privacy is an issue for you.
For several months now, Humane has been testing the AI Pin. The co-founder of the business revealed some prototypes of the impending gadget in April of this year. Humane was supposed to release details about the device on October 14, but it appears that the announcement has been moved back to November 9.
The wearable gadget will be worn by its user by magnetically attaching it to their clothes. Ahead of the gadget's official release, the device was recently shown off on the catwalk at the Paris fashion show of French luxury brand Coperni. It was fastened to the pockets of pants and jackets as well as blazer lapels.

Ai Pin from Humane will soon be available as tech businesses scramble to develop AI-enabled products and capitalize on the AI frenzy. In September, Meta revealed the newest iteration of their smart glasses, the Ray-Bans, which include Meta AI, a conversational assistant. Sam Altman of OpenAI and the former design leader of Apple are allegedly collaborating on the development of an AI hardware product.
Some technology experts predict that this new wave of AI-powered gadgets will give rise to the next smartphone, or the gadget that becomes an indispensable part of everyday life.
$230 million has been raised for Humane by investors including Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, Tiger Global, Qualcomm Ventures, Microsoft, and Sam Altman of OpenAI.
Additionally, the company already employs over 200 people, which implies that future product launches may occur.
