Google reportedly considering battery health feature for Android 14

According to reports, Google is preparing to launch a battery health feature in its upcoming operating system, Android 14, which is specifically designed for smartphones and tablets. This information was shared by Mishaal Rahman, the editor-in-chief of Esper, who revealed that new BatteryManager APIs have been added to the Android 14 beta. The newly added BatteryManager APIs in Android 14 beta provide information on various aspects of the device, including the cycle count, charging status, manufacturing date, date of first use, charging policy, and the overall health status of the battery.

While the system APIs are accessible to any application with the BATTERY_STATS permission, they are currently limited to Pixel smartphones running Android 14 Beta 2 or later. Alongside the battery health feature, Google has been working on other updates for Android 14. Among these changes is a new settings feature that enables users to conveniently configure their regional preferences without the need to navigate through individual app settings. Furthermore, Android 14 aims to enhance security by preventing the installation of applications that target outdated versions of Android, thus reducing the potential risks associated with malware.
