Google is reportedly working on new features for its messaging app, Google Messages, in an effort to attract more users. One of these features is a message-editing feature that is currently in development. However, it is not yet confirmed whether this feature will be included in the final version of the app.
According to reports, Google added some flags to the beta version of Google Messages, suggesting that the company may be taking inspiration from WhatsApp's editing feature. However, it is unclear whether Google's editing feature will have a time frame for editing messages, similar to WhatsApp and iMessage.
WhatsApp introduced its message editing feature earlier this year, allowing users to edit messages within 15 minutes of sending them. The edited messages are marked with the word "edited." iMessage also allows users to edit messages within two minutes of sending them, starting with the iOS 16 operating system.
Google has been criticised in the past for neglecting its messaging app, but it seems that the company is now focused on improving it. Recently, Google introduced the Photomoji feature, which uses on-device AI to turn images into stickers.
While these new features are exciting, it is important to note that Google is constantly working on new features, and there is no guarantee that all of them will make it into the stable version of the app. Nonetheless, these updates show that Google is determined to compete with other popular messaging apps and provide users with more control over their chats.
