Google may introduce Gemini, a rival to GPT-4, in January 2024

Google revealed at Google I/O 2023 that it was developing "Gemini," a next-generation AI model. Next week, the internet giant was supposed to reveal its rival to GPT-4, but a recent source indicates that Google may be delaying the introduction until January 2024.

The Information, citing insiders, claims that Gemini was having trouble processing questions that were not in English, which is what led Google CEO Sundar Pichai to postpone the launch date until January of next year. The story continues by stating that Google has "met that standard in some respects" and that support for several languages is crucial for the company to match or even exceed OpenAI's GPT-4. Pichai stated last month that while the business is working to finalize the largest version of the next-generation AI model, it is prioritizing releasing Gemini 1.0 as soon as feasible.

The tech giant made it clear that Gemini would be the most potent model it has ever worked on when it unveiled it at Google I/O in May of this year. Google claims that Gemini, which is based on PaLM 2 and is overseen by the Brain Team and DeepMind, will be "multimodal," or able to work with many information kinds, including text and graphics, as well as possess planning and memory skills. Google plans to use Gemini across all of its products, both internally and for developers and cloud customers. It will come in different sizes and capacities, and it may mix many AI models. The next generation AI model will be "highly efficient with tools and API integrations," according to Pichai's additional statement.

Google's current AI-driven products, including Search, Google Assistant, and the well-liked chatbot Bard, are anticipated to be powered by the future AI model.
