Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said on Monday that the company has appointed OpenAI co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman to head a "new advanced AI research team." Hours after the board of OpenAI named former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear as CEO, the business made its announcement, rejecting investor demands to bring back fired co-founder Sam Altman.
"Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, along with colleagues, will be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team," Nadella stated. "We're extremely excited to share this news." "We're excited to get going and provide them the tools they need to succeed.""Colleagues" who have joined Altman and Brockman, according to Nadella, could mean that Microsoft intends to bring on board additional former OpenAI workers who departed the business over the weekend.Nadella stressed that Microsoft is still dedicated to the startup, despite his company having spent billions of dollars on OpenAI.

Altman announced his decision to join Microsoft in a post on X (previously Twitter), citing Nadella and writing, "The mission continues." Then, in response, Nadella hinted subtly at Altman's future position at Microsoft. "With GitHub, Mojang Studios, LinkedIn, and other Microsoft startups, we've learned a lot over the years about how to give founders and innovators space to build separate identities and cultures. I'm looking forward to having you do the same."
