Alphabet's CEO, Sundar Pichai, has been named one of the highest-paid CEOs in the US after receiving a total compensation of $226 million last year. This was primarily due to the award of a large tranche of shares, worth over $218 million, as per the filings published on Friday. His annual base salary of $2 million has remained unchanged since 2020. Pichai receives shares every three years, and in 2019, he received over $280 million when the company's co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, stepped down from their executive roles.

As per the filing, Alphabet spent almost $6 million on providing personal security for Pichai. The filing also revealed that other executives, such as Prabhakar Raghavan, the senior vice president of Google's knowledge and information, and Philipp Schindler, the chief business officer, earned around $37 million each. These executives receive annual share awards.
