A Hyderabad-based startup has designed a smart calculator which can keep a track of all the transactions previously done on it. Praveen Mishra the Co-founder of ‘Tohands' has created the calculator which is probably the first of its kind in the world. According to Praveen, the calculator is the backbone of all small businesses - from a jewellery store to a ration shop. Praveen himself was not convinced that there was a need for such a thing in the market but when he saw a woman shopkeeper in Bengaluru struggling to keep track of the several transactions she made throughout the day, he realized that it was a time to make something which can help the businesses. The total process that a shopkeeper goes through starts from calculating the sum for each transaction, writing it down on a piece of paper and, at the end of the day, adding it all up again using a calculator to get the final amount.
Praveen also noticed that small business owners are not really comfortable using digital cash books, and they are not also able to invest in fancy billing machines. So, the only option left is to use the traditional calculator which sometimes becomes a little difficult when calculating several computations at the same time.

To make this process easier, ToHands has made three versions of the smart calculator and the final one is also available for pre-order at the cost of 3,000. The smart calculator was launched by Telangana IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan last month. After the launch, Ranjan stated, “This device spares the shopkeeper the hassle of jotting down all the income and expenses made during the day and presents an updated statement at the click of a button.” The calculator is able to perform several activities that will help shopkeepers keep track of all income and expenses, and also provide them with daily, weekly, and monthly reports and analytics.
“Calculators have a basic use case but we can do a lot of things on top of the calculation part, which is where we think the smart calculator will be a really good tool for the shopkeepers,” said Praveen while talking to a newspaper. Praveen Mishra is a native of Uttar Pradesh who Started the company ToHands’ in 2017 with Satyam Sahu who is in charge of the software and app, and Shanmuga Vadival, who looks after the hardware. Praveen looks after the product side of things.
Well, here's someone creating simple things to improve the daily lives of small businessmen. We look forward to more such Indian innovations.
