A fresh controversy has surfaced during the 2026 Premier League clash between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings on Tuesday. A video of Rajasthan’s 24-year-old captain Riyan Parag has gone viral on social media, allegedly showing him using a vape inside the team dressing room.
The incident reportedly took place during the 16th over of the second innings, when broadcast cameras briefly captured Parag. Interestingly, the footage surfaced just moments after he was dismissed for 29 runs off 16 balls and had returned to the pavilion.
The clip, emerging at a crucial stage of the match, has sparked widespread debate among fans and cricket circles. The captain’s alleged actions during an ongoing game have raised serious questions about sportsmanship and discipline.
Questions Over Disciplinary Action
As the video gained traction online, questions have been raised about possible disciplinary measures. While there is no explicit public rule banning vaping, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) enforces strict guidelines regarding player conduct within stadium premises.
Under health and safety protocols, the use of tobacco or related products inside dressing rooms or dugouts is generally prohibited. This puts Parag at potential risk of facing penalties.
What is Vaping?
Vaping refers to the use of battery-powered devices such as e-cigarettes or vape pens. These devices heat a liquid containing nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals to produce an aerosol, which is then inhaled.
Unlike traditional smoking, vaping involves inhaling vapor instead of smoke, making it a modern alternative—though still widely debated in terms of health and regulation.
Struggles Continue for Parag
The controversy comes at a challenging time for Parag. Following the departure of Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings, he has been leading Rajasthan Royals in the 2026 season.
However, his form has been under scrutiny. Prior to this match, he had scored just 81 runs in seven innings, drawing criticism from fans and former players.
Rajasthan Royals Secure Crucial Win
Despite the off-field drama, Rajasthan Royals successfully chased down a target of 223 runs with six wickets in hand, handing Punjab Kings their first defeat of the season.
Previous Disciplinary Incident
This is not the first instance of disciplinary concerns involving the franchise. Earlier, Rajasthan Royals’ team manager Romi Bhinder was fined ₹1 lakh and issued an official warning for using a mobile phone inside the dugout during an IPL 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on April 10.
