England fast bowler Jofra Archer will not be participating in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) aims to manage his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup. For most of the year, Archer has been unable to play professional cricket due to a recurrent elbow injury. Despite travelling with the England team as a reserve player, he continued to experience pain and was unable to play.
Archer's absence from the IPL is a blow for the Mumbai Indians, who released him ahead of the auction. Fans had high expectations for Archer in the previous season, but injuries hindered his performance. He only managed to take two wickets in five matches and struggled against opposing batters.
The ECB's decision to keep Archer out of the IPL auction is in line with their efforts to prioritise his recovery and manage his workload. The scans revealed a recurrence of a stress fracture in his right elbow, which also ruled him out of the Ashes series. The ECB has advised Archer not to enter the auction, ensuring that he can focus on his rehabilitation and return to full fitness.
While Archer won't be participating in the IPL, several other England players have signed contracts with their respective teams. Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Jason Roy, Mark Wood, Will Jacks, and Reece Topley will all be representing their teams in the upcoming season. However, all-rounder Ben Stokes and star batter Joe Root decided to opt out of the tournament.
