IPL 2025 Retentions: Major Captains and Stars Set for New Teams

With IPL 2025 just around the corner, all ten franchises have released their retained player list and set the frenzy before the November auction. Virat Kohli sticks with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) retains with amount of ₹21 crores. SunRisers Hyderabad retains Klaasen in ₹23 crore making the player the most retained and costliest in the history of IPL.

Major Captains Like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul Released

Some of the captains will feature in the 2025 auction pool. Delhi Capitals' Rishabh Pant and Lucknow Super Giants' KL Rahul are among the big names that have been released. Rahul has been a leader since the beginning of the team but has been released. Owner Sanjiv Goenka stated that the franchise would concentrate on players who make team objectives a priority. This also indicates a shift in the leadership for DC. KKR has released Shreyas Iyer, who has just led the team to victory, and Faf du Plessis has been released from RCB, Kohli's may return as captain.

Key Retentions 

Mumbai Indians (MI) have strengthened their core by retaining stars Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Tilak Varma. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained MS Dhoni as an uncapped player under the new rule for a whopping ₹4 crore. Punjab Kings (PBKS) did not retain any capped players, The mega-auction event will occur later in November for IPL 2025. The auction pool is set to feature big names including Yuzvendra Chahal, Marcus Stoinis, Mohammed Shami, Trent Boult, and Arshdeep Singh and others.
