ICC T20 World Cup IND vs PAK - Virat Kohli creates history

On 23rd October 2022, India created history at its ICC T20 World Cup game against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia! It was an early Diwali for Indians as their team started the match with a hot-headed aggressive bowling salvo against the mighty Pakistani team. The second innings though wasn't what one would expect after a powerful opening like that. But yet, Indians have made it a habit to snatch victory out of defeat's jaws and this day was no different.

India's ex-skipper and consistent star Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 82 off 53 as India chased down the target of 160 on the final delivery.

Team India was reeling at 30 for 4 when Kohli was handed the responsibility of rescuing India. After India lost 4 wickets during the deadly Pakistan bowling spell, middle-order Virat Kohli was joined by Hardik Pandya and this outstanding duo added a game-changing partnership of 113 runs for the 5th wicket. The game became a nail-biter towards the end, the stadium was filled with anxious yet curious faces. India needed 2 runs off the final delivery when Mohammad Nawaz bowled a wide ball.

Virat Kohli scripts history

Virat came out to script a historic win, playing one of the best knocks ever played in the history of T20 cricket.  During the final delivery, R Ashwin scored the winning run and India chased down the target with 4 wickets in hand. Former Indian skipper Sachin Tendulkar too was in all awe of Virat Kohli, after his match-winning half-century.  He also commented that this was Virat Kohli's best performance yet.

Indian Team at the National Anthem

After the win, the players rushed to the field and hugged Kohli. Indian captain Rohit Sharma lifted his former captain to celebrate the famous win against the arch-rivals.

Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh gave the ultimate statement that cricketing contests don't get much better than the one the world witnessed in Melbourne on Sunday. He added that "I actually think we should just stop the World Cup there. Um, if it gets any better than that, we're in for an amazing three weeks. India v Pakistan is always an incredible game to watch. I can't imagine what it would be like to have been in that crowd and to be a part of it."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the men in blue and said, "The India team bags a well-fought victory! Congratulations on an outstanding performance today. A special mention to @imVkohli for spectacular innings in which he demonstrated remarkable tenacity. Best wishes for the games ahead."
