Fake news about the death of Heath Streak is doing rounds in social media

Heath Streak was at home in Zimbabwe when he learned of the false reports of his death. As the news spread and tributes poured in from around the world, Streak took to social media to confirm that he was alive and well. According to  Sportstar earlier in the day, his former colleague Henry Olonga, shared on the internet that Streak had passed away. Streak had been fighting colon cancer since May, but he didn't use social media, so he couldn't tell everyone that the news was not true.

"I'm at home, and naturally, I'm still experiencing some discomfort due to the treatment. However, overall, I'm doing well," stated the ex-Zimbabwe captain.

"All of a sudden, I found out that there were rumours about my passing, as someone had posted it on social media. But that's not accurate at all. I'm on the road to recovery and feeling significantly improved." he added

Heath Streak was shocked and saddened to learn of the false reports of his death. As the news spread, he received many messages of support and sympathy from fans and colleagues around the world.

Even Olonga verified Streak's survival and offered an apology for his earlier social media post. A prominent figure in Zimbabwe cricket, Streak received an eight-year suspension from the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2021 due to violating the anti-corruption code in 2018.

Streak's career culminated with 216 wickets in Test matches and 239 in ODIs. Following his international cricket tenure, he embarked on coaching various international teams, including Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. He also took charge of numerous Indian Premier League (IPL) teams, such as the Kolkata Knight Riders and the now-defunct Rajkot franchise.

Heath Streak is a legendary cricketer who achieved many firsts for Zimbabwe. He was the first cricketer from the country to claim 100 wickets in both Tests and ODIs. He is also the only cricketer from Zimbabwe to complete the double of 100 Test wickets and 1,000 Test runs, as well as the only one to score 2,000 runs and claim 200 wickets in ODIs.

Streak made his Test and ODI debuts in 1993 and was appointed captain of the Zimbabwe cricket team in 1999-2000. He led the team to many memorable victories, including a famous win over Australia in 2000.
