India and England faced off in the second semifinal of the 2022 T20 World Cup on the 10th of November 2022 at the Adelaide Oval. India had hoped to participate in the World Cup Finale match against Pakistan this year. Since Pakistan had already won the previous Semi Final against New Zealand and made a place for itself in the finals. However, England destroyed this dream after defeating India by 10 wickets.
In their respective games as captains, Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler led India vs England to the T20 World Cup semi-final 2022.
England players Jos Buttler and Alex Hales outshined India by defeating them and setting themselves up against Pakistan in the final battle of the World Cup. Although the Indian teams played well and set a challenging score, England's batsmen eliminated all of the bowlers to win the game by 10 wickets.
In the history of white ball cricket, England could potentially become the first team to hold both global trophies in white ball cricket if they win against Pakistan in the Finals.
For the match versus India, England chose to field first after winning the toss. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, the first two Indian scorers, fell short of expectations.
India managed to score only 9 runs in the first over before England took their first wicket on the fourth ball of the second over. Virat Kohli entered the game as the one-down player after one of the players went down. Together, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma managed to score 56 runs for the team, scoring 47 runs in 8.5 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav, who is renowned for his reliable performance in every game, was unable to perform well after Rohit Sharma's exit and was eliminated only after scoring 14 runs in 10 balls. India was able to score 75 runs up until this point while losing 3 wickets.
Virat Kohli 50(40) and Hardik Pandya 63*(33) shared a solid 61-run partnership to help the team reach the manageable score of 168 runs while losing 6 wickets. Virat Kohli hit his 37th half-century in the T20 World Cup in 2022.
In power play overs, England's ballers were limiting the Indian batsman while India was making a valiant effort to remain in the game. They made it difficult for India to score more runs, and as a result, India only managed to surpass the run rate of 6.3 with 38 runs.
Adil Rashid and Chris Woakes each took one wicket, while England's Chris Jordan took three wickets. The England Ballers performed admirably and with a fighting spirit. England had the target of 168 runs to win the semi-final. And this target was achieved only in 16 overs with a run-rate of 10.62 by two of the opening batsman named (C) Jos Buttler 80*(49) and Alex Hales 86*(47). Surprisingly for an in-form team like India, this wasn't even a 20-over innings.
India disappointed everyone with their performance in this T20 match between India and England, taking away the fourth opportunity to participate in the finals. Under the leadership of the legendary MS Dhoni, India only won the T20 World Cup in 2007.
