Cricket Star Shami set to miss IPL due to ankle surgery

Mohammed Shami, a senior Indian pacer, has undergone successful surgery on his left achilles tendon, ruling him out of next month's Indian Premier League and possibly the June T20 World Cup. The 33-year-old, who last played for India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia on November 19, had surgery in London on Monday, according to PTI last week.

Shami is looking forward to recovering soon and getting back on his feet. However, he will need a minimum of three months for recovery. The Indian Premier League will take place from March 22 to May 26, followed by the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States.

On Monday, Shami tweeted on X, along with several photos of himself in the hospital."Just had a successful heel operation on my achilles tendon! πŸ‘Ÿ Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet." he shared.

Shami, who took 24 wickets in India's stupendous ODI World Cup campaign, had to play through pain due to landing issues, but he did not let it affect his performance. He flew to London in January to receive specialized ankle injections. However, the medication proved ineffective, and the fast bowler was forced to undergo surgery. Shami, who was recently awarded the Arjuna Award, has 229 Test, 195 ODI, and 24 T20 wickets in his decade-long career.
