An unusual occurrence occurred during the 2023 World Cup final between Australia and India when a pro-Palestine protester entered the field and briefly stopped play. The pitch invader, who was hauled out of the stadium following his brief appearance alongside Indian batting legend Virat Kohli in the middle, is reportedly being identified by Gujarat Police, according to sources. The invader, with a facemask in the colors green, red, white, and black—all of which stand for Palestine—has made it through the earth and arrived at Kohli.
Wen Johnson, the intruder, ran towards Kohli after he had passed the boundary during the 14th over of the Indian innings. His shirt featured the bold statement, "Stop Bombing Palestine," and he was dressed as the Palestinian flag. He attempted to embrace the Indian batter and rubbed Kohli's back at first, but was pushed out of the way before the security guards arrived.
After being brought into custody by Ahmedabad City Police, Johnson, 24, was questioned at the Chandkheda Police station.
However, this is not the first pitch invasion incident to occur during the competition. The previous month, during a league match between Australia and India at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, social media influencer and prolific pitch invader Daniel Jarvis, also known as Jarvo, was arrested by law enforcement.
Before the game began, Jarvo entered the stadium donning the national colors of India. He was led by security staff, and the ICC then prohibited him from attending any more World Cup games. Later on, he was deported.
However, there were concerns about how he entered the VIP area and got past many security measures to get to the playing field.
