Joga Purty Sets New National Speed Climbing Record at Asian

Seven years ago, Joga Purty walked into the JRD Tata Sports Complex without even knowing what sport climbing was. Today, she is representing India at the Asian Games.

The 19-year-old from Jamshedpur discovered climbing almost by chance after visiting the facility with friends. What started as curiosity eventually became a serious sporting journey.

And on September 29, Joga broke her own national record in women’s speed climbing, clocking an incredible 7.28 seconds in the Asian Games qualification round, improving on her previous mark of 7.37 seconds. She also qualified for the quarterfinals.

Her journey wasn't easy. Coming from a modest family, she initially had to convince those around her that climbing could become a serious career. National medals and international competitions eventually changed that.

From a local climbing wall in Jamshedpur to the Asian Games stage, Joga's journey is a reminder that sometimes the biggest dreams begin with simply trying something new.
