Ind vs Eng 5th Test: India wraps up the game on Day 3 with an innings

In just over a session, England was swept away at Dharamsala, with Ravichandran Ashwin taking a record 36th Test five-wicket haul in India's 100th match in the longest format. Thus, India defeated England by 64 runs in an innings. On Day 3, Jasprit Bumrah filled in as captain after Rohit Sharma was unable to field because of a sore back. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah both claimed two wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja grabbed one. Joe Root, who fought valiantly at the bat to hit 84 off 128 balls, was the final English wicket to go in this series.

On Day 3, with India all out for 477, England's top three fell to Ashwin in the first 10 overs of the visitors' second innings. In the end, they lost five wickets in a little more than half a session before lunch, with Kuldeep getting three and Ashwin taking four. Shortly after play resumed, Ashwin claimed his fifth wicket when he removed Ben Foakes.

Earlier, James Anderson ensured that England did not allow Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah to continue where they left off by claiming the former's 700th Test wicket. Thus, England's perennial pace sensation became the first fast bowler to collect 700 Test wickets and only the third bowler overall, behind Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan. Shoaib Bashir also completed his five-wicket haul.
