NBA Awards 2024-25: Who Will Take the MVP, DPOY, and More?
The new season of the NBA has finally arrived, and fans have big dreams. Indeed, there will be quite several improvements in the distribution of the most prized awards-from MVP to Defensive Player of the Year. And, by Thursday night, all teams will play their first games, keeping the crowd interested with games such as Celtics vs. Knicks and Lakers vs. Timberwolves on opening night.
MVP race: Two-man show?
This season's MVP race is up for a tight competition by the youngsters, who are Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA). At the moment, Luka currently comes as a slight favourite, guiding Dallas Mavericks with odds at +350. Next in line comes SGA of OKC with +400 odds. Nikola Jokic of Denver Nuggets is three-time MVP winner, at +475 odds.
Defensive Player of the Year: Wembanyama the Front-runner
Victor Wembanyama, the 7-foot-3 phenom, is the outright favourite to win DPOY heading into the season. He's shown +155 odds to take the title, and many think it will be the first of several DPOY championships in his career. Supporting him in contention are Bam Adebayo at +1100, Evan Mobley at +1200, and Chet Holmgren at +1200.
Rookie of the Year: The Young Stars to Watch
The Rookie of the Year competition is an exciting one, and everyone will be looking for Zach Edey, a Memphis Grizzlies favourite in most starting lines. The other serious competitors include the Rockets' Reed Sheppard, who was taken third overall. The Hawks' No. 1 pick, Zaccharie Risacher, will also be in the hunt.
Other Predicted Awards
Malik Monk is featured for Sixth Man of the Year at +550 odds. Under this category, Victor Wembanyama too appears at +725 odds in the Most Improved Player category.
