Nikola Tesla Day: Let's reflect on some of his predictions that came true

Nikola Tesla, a famous Serbian inventor (1856-1943), is known for his many inventions, including alternating current. Although his popularity varied during his lifetime, it has greatly increased in recent years. Every year on July 10th, Nikola Tesla Day is observed to pay tribute to the exceptional life and contributions of Nikola Tesla, a remarkable scientist and inventor who left an indelible mark on the 19th and 20th centuries. Tesla's groundbreaking work in the field of electrical engineering laid the foundation for many modern technologies that we use today, including the alternating current (AC) electrical supply system, the radio, and the Tesla coil. Today, Tesla is more than just a cult hero; his name is associated with a significant tech company, and his predictions about future technology have made him seem like a modern-day oracle. We will take a look at some of Nikola Tesla's predictions that have come true and explore how these technologies are changing the world around us.

1. Smartphones

Nikola Tesla predicted that the world would have small, wireless devices that would combine various technologies and wireless connections. While he did not use the words "mobile phone" or "smartphone," his description of these devices from 1926 sounds remarkably similar to what we now call smartphones. Nikola Tesla's quote, as discovered by Big Think describes what we now know as the modern-day smartphone. Tesla envisioned a communication device so "simple" that it could be carried in our "vest pocket."

2. WiFi

Nikola Tesla's passion for wireless technology drove him to invent and theorize methods of transmitting data without the need for wires. One of his notable predictions was the ability to transmit telephone signals, documents, music, and video worldwide using wireless technology. Although Tesla did not personally achieve this during his lifetime, his vision became a reality in the early 1990s with the advent of the World Wide Web. This breakthrough allowed data to be transmitted wirelessly, fulfilling Tesla's prediction.

3. Pollution

In the 1930s, Nikola Tesla predicted that pollution would become a major problem. He also warned against the dangers of processed foods and chemical stimulants like tobacco, coffee, and tea. However, he believed that alcohol was a "veritable elixir of life." To combat pollution, keep food natural, and keep the water clean. In one of his predictions, Tesla envisioned a future where the position of Secretary of Hygiene or Physical Culture would hold greater significance in the United States President's cabinet compared to the Secretary of War by the year 2035. As per quoted words by Smithsonian Magazine, he stated, "The pollution of our beaches such as exists today around New York City will seem as unthinkable to our children and grandchildren as life without plumbing seems to us. Our water supply will be far more carefully supervised, and only a lunatic will drink unsterilized water."

4. Wireless News

Nikola Tesla predicted that printed newspapers would be replaced by wireless news delivery. He also envisioned a future where people could access all the information they needed from the comfort of their own homes.

5. Women's Empowerment

Tesla saw a future where women were no longer limited by their gender. Although this is not a technological invention, he believed that women would receive equal education to men and would start taking leadership positions in society. Tesla, a visionary ahead of his time, is now being celebrated for his numerous contributions to the world, which are increasingly recognized and appreciated.
