In a notable move, Banerjee announced a split from the Congress-led alliance and named Yousuf Pathan as a candidate from Baharampur. Pathan's candidacy sets the stage for a heated contest with Adhir Chowdhury, the five-time MP from the constituency, indicating a fierce electoral fight ahead. The names of 8 incumbent MPs, including actor-MPs Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan, have been replaced. Mahua Moitra will continue to fight from her fort Krishnanagar in Nadia.

Banerjee's candidate list includes 11 Ministers and sitting MLAs, as well as 12 women, reflecting the party's commitment to diversity and representation. The announcement was made during a rally at the Brigade Ground, where Banerjee addressed a crowd of enthusiastic supporters and sympathisers.

During her speech, CM Banerjee referenced Election Commissioner Arun Goyal's resignation on Sunday. She also criticized the BJP, questioning the performance of its 18 MPs over the past five years.

Banerjee accused the BJP of failing to allocate funds for crucial welfare schemes like the Awas Yojana and the 100 Days Work scheme. She emphasized that approximately 59 lakh people in Bengal have been deprived of payment under the 100-day work scheme.
