The Rajput community in Rajasthan has called for a bandh and launched protests in response to the broad daylight murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, a national president of the Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena and a leader of the Rajput community, on Tuesday. Three armed men, one of whom was shot dead in retaliatory firing, shot and killed Gogamedi in the living room of his Jaipur home, according to the police. Naveen Singh Shekhawat, the Rajput leader's aide, was also slain in the incident, which was captured on camera.
The two suspects have been named, and the Jaipur Police Commissioner, Biju Geroge Joseph, said that detectives were looking for them. According to Shekhawat, the other person who was shot, the suspect got into Gogamedi's house. Joseph stated that it needs to be looked into whether Shekhawat, who formerly ran a clothing store, knew what the two accused were planning. To look into the killing, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was created, and a Rs 5 lakh reward was also offered for information that led to the arrest of the two suspects. Furthermore, Additional Director General (Crime) Dinesh MN will be in charge of it.
Jaipur Bandh
Following the tragedy, followers of Gogamedi held several protests in Jaipur and other Rajasthani cities. The national head of the Shri Rajput Karni Sena, Mahipal Singh Makrana, blasted the police over the incident and called for the state director-general to be fired for "failing" to protect the Rajput leader.
"The Punjab Police provided intelligence regarding the murder of Sukhdev Gogamedi, but the Rajasthan Police did not offer him protection." The police have obviously failed in this case. He informed the media that the DG ought to be replaced and that careless police officers ought to face consequences. Makrana added that if the accused were not apprehended, they would be compelled to stage protests across the nation.
A Karni Sena chief's family member claimed that Gogamedi was terrified of being attacked since he had been threatened for a long time. He said that the police had been notified of the threats.According to a police official, gangster Rohit Godara, who is associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi group, claimed responsibility for the murder on social media.
Congress and the BJP argue over murder.
A political blame game sprang out between the Bharatiya Janata Party, which had recently won the elections, and the outgoing Congress government, coincidentally, when the shooting occurred two days after the state's election results were declared. The Congress and BJP both made jabs at each other in light of the most recent electoral results, even as they denounced the death and called for immediate action.
According to a post by the outgoing Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on X (previously Twitter), Shri Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi's murder was extremely tragic. God grant the departed soul peace and the fortitude to support his family at this difficult time."
But the Chief Minister of the Rajasthan BJP, C. P. Joshi, questioned why, in spite of demands, Gogamedi had not received security. An investigation is needed to determine the rationale behind the lack of security. Anarchy-causing criminals must be taken into custody right away, he declared.
After "gang wars have flourished" in the desert state since the Ashok Gehlot government, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attacked the Congress dictatorship in the state, claiming that this is an unfavourable result. Senior Congressman Pramod Tewari, meanwhile, asserted that following news that the BJP is poised to seize power in the state, criminal brazenness in Rajasthan had increased. In all, the BJP won 115 out of the 199 seats that were up for election in Sunday's state assembly elections.
