Ministry suspends aviation body official in corruption charges, says 'Zero tolerance'

On Wednesday, the government placed DGCA official Captain Anil Gill under suspension as the aviation authority considers filing disciplinary charges against him following allegations of corruption. A preliminary investigation against him was conducted in response to the graft charges, and the results were recently turned in to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

As per the ministry's notice, Gill has been placed under suspension under Section 10 of the Central Civil Services Rules. This provision allows the appointing authority to place a government official under suspension when a disciplinary proceeding is either underway or is being considered for them.

Gill is currently employed with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as a director in the Directorate of Aerosports.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said, "There is zero tolerance to malpractices. Any such issue will always be dealt with the strictest measures in accordance with the law."

The order stated that Gill was to remain in the nation's capital during the suspension. The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) guidelines were followed in conducting the preliminary investigation. According to sources, he was accused of corruption during his time at the DGCA department, which oversaw flying instruction organisations.

The DGCA has also begun reassigning other officials' roles and moving them to new centres in response to the graft allegations.
