Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister, Manohar Joshi's mortal remains were solemnly transported from his residence in Matunga to the Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar for his final rites after 2 p.m. on Friday, according to individuals familiar with the matter who spoke to Vygr NewsAs mourners gathered to pay their respects at the hospital, residence and the crematorium ground, the atmosphere was filled with a sense of reverence.

86-year-old Josi, who served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999 breathed his last Friday at  3 am. He was admitted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai after a cardiac arrest. Joshi was admitted to the same hospital last time in May. 

Manohar Joshi, who served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, left an indelible mark on the state's political landscape.

 

Manohar Joshi served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999 and was the first leader from the undivided Shiv Sena to become the Chief Minister of the state. He is survived by his widow, two daughters and a son according to a media report. 

Manohar Joshi, born on December 2, 1937, hailed from the coastal Konkan region of Maharashtra. He earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering at the esteemed Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute in Mumbai.

Manohar Joshi, a political stalwart known for his significant contributions to Maharashtra's governance, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of service and leadership inside the party. Joshi's journey in politics was marked by milestones reflecting his dedication to Maharashtra politics and social welfare.

A multifaceted leader, Joshi's political career was characterized by diverse roles. He served as a Member of Parliament and notably held the prestigious position of Lok Sabha Speaker during the Vajpayee era from 2002 to 2004, showcasing his prowess in parliamentary affairs.

Rooted in his early association with the RSS, Joshi was on a romantic political journey switching to the erstwhile undivided Shiv Sena, demonstrating unwavering commitment to his ideological stance. His journey saw him serve as Mumbai's municipal councillor from 1968 to 1970, later assuming the role of Mayor from 1976 to 1977, where he endeavoured to uplift the city's civic infrastructure. 

Joshi's ascent to the helm of Maharashtra's leadership, succeeding Chief Minister Sharad Pawar of the Indian National Congress, marked a pivotal moment in Maha-Politics. His tenure as Chief Minister from 1995 to 1999 was characterized by efforts to address key socio-economic challenges facing the state.
