IT chiefs will be prosecuted if they refuse to declare a paid holiday on poll day

Karnataka assembly elections are today, 10 May. Apart from election campaigns and awareness by election commission, there isn’t enough voting happened before. To avoid this and after receiving complaints from various employees from private firms, Bengaluru election officer announced that company’s CEO will be prosecuted if they refuse paid holiday to their employees on poll day, 10 may.

Bengaluru is IT hub of India but these companies never has any other holidays than week off. Thus it’s compulsory for these firms give a holiday and allow employees to vote in Karnataka. Karnataka government has already given a holiday to all government as well as all other employees, under section 135B of representation of people act.  Article 135B states that any employee may it from any establishment is entitled to vote in Loksabha and state assembly elections and granted as a holiday.

This announcement was by an order of chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar to increase participation of citizens in voting as its one of our important duty.
