Bangladesh's foreign minister, Hasan Mahmud, recently visited New Delhi and declared that both Bangladesh and India would use non-lethal weapons to lower border casualties. Following discussion, the two nations decided on non-lethal weapons. This initiative is a positive step towards strengthening ties between the two countries and safeguarding the citizens of border regions.

During his visit to India, Foreign Minister Mahmud also spoke about the Teesta water-sharing issue. He admitted that the state, not the federal government, would have to decide how to resolve this matter. He said that the issue will be discussed following the April–May national elections. This suggests that although reaching a definitive deal on the water-sharing issue may take some time, both countries are dedicated to finding a solution.

Ajit Doval, the national security advisor, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, and Foreign Minister Mahmud had one-on-one conversations with several Indian officials during his visit. He also called the Indian president, Droupadi Murmu. He spoke about a lot of things in these meetings, including the economic and commercial connections between the two countries. He requested help from India to guarantee the provision of essentials and further strengthen trade ties.

Stability and Collaboration in the Region

To address regional cooperation for preserving greater stability in the region and beyond and ensuring regional security, Foreign Minister Mahmud also met with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. This demonstrates both nations' dedication to cooperating to solve shared security issues and advance regional stability.

Developing Bangladeshi-Indian Relations
