Chandrababu Naidu produced in ACB court, hearing underway

The Telugu Desam Party president, N Chandrababu Naidu, was presented in court by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Vijayawada on Sunday morning amidst heavy security, one day after his arrest in connection with an alleged corruption case. The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister is being represented by a group of attorneys led by Supreme Court lawyer Siddarth Luthra.

Several TDP top leaders and party members gathered at the court complex.

At 3:40 a.m., after being questioned for ten hours at the CID's Special Investigation Team (SIT) office in Kunchanapalli, he was taken to Government General Hospital in Vijayawada for medical examination.

Naidu was taken back to the SIT office after the tests, which took around 50 minutes, even though it was anticipated that he would be taken straight to a local court.

The TDP chief's wife Nara Bhuvaneswari, son Nara Lokesh, and other family members were reportedly waiting at the ACB Court, according to TDP spokesperson Pattabhi Ram Kommareddy.

"We expected him to be taken to court, but they returned him to the SIT office. Lokesh and Bhuvaneswari were waiting at the Court when the convoy abruptly headed towards the SIT office," Kommareddy explained.

When asked if Naidu would be produced in court within 24 hours of his detention, he responded with astonishment and confusion.

In connection with the alleged Skill Development Corporation scam, Naidu was detained on Saturday during a police raid in the Nandyala village of Gnanapuram. Around six in the morning, the CID caught him outside a wedding hall where his vehicle was parked.

The scam reportedly cost the state exchequer 300 crore rupees. The TDP leader has been named as the "primary conspirator" in the case, according to reports.

In the meantime, the TDP has urged its supporters to take part in a one-day fast on Sunday in each Assembly district to show their opposition to Naidu's detention.
