After the videos of North Indian migrant workers, being ill-treated went viral, there have been speculations that multiple migrant workers might return back home. Even though the videos have been called ‘false’ and ‘mischievous’ by the police, there is still a sense of fear among the Hindi-speaking community.
Many of them are returning back home but they have ensured that they will return after celebrating Holi with their families.
The secretary of the Chennai District Small Scale Industries Association, Jaya Vijayan said, “The entire industrial and manufacturing sector in Tamil Nadu will come to a halt if these rumors [of attacks on north Indian workers] continue to escalate. Without the workforce from north India, we cannot operate in Tamil Nadu. We are waiting to see how many of these workers return after Holi.”
