World’s Dirtiest man takes a shower and then, passes away

An Iranian male who was labelled the "dirtiest man in the world" for not bathing for half a century has died at the age of 94, according to state media. Amou Haji, who had not bathed in more than 50 years, passed away on Sunday in the region of Dejgah, according to the IRNA news agency.

An official in the vicinity informed that Amou Haji had refrained from taking a shower for fear of "getting sick." The report went on to say that "for the first time a few months ago, villagers had taken him to a bathroom to wash." Based on some stories, the locals in the area thought the hermit had experienced "emotional setbacks in his youth," which may have caused some form of trauma that caused him to avoid showering.

World's dirtiest man

Amou Haji resided in a hut that was constructed by nearby settlers and was frequently seen wandering around the neighbourhood covered in soot. He also smoked pipe filled with animal waste and feared that fresh food may make him ill. A few months earlier, the locals had finally convinced him to bathe. He may have died from old age, but he did take his last wash.

According to sources, in 2013, a short documentary film named "The Strange Life of Amou Haji" was shot about his lifetime.

When Haji passed away, the unofficial record could pass to an Indian guy who has similarly lived a long time without taking a bath. In 2009, with an intention to help solve "all the problems confronting the nation,"  a man named Kailash "Kalau" Singh, from a town just outside Varanasi, was reported to have skipped washing for about more than thirty years. He would choose a "fire bath," as opposed to water. It's similar to taking a bath with water, Singh reportedly added.  A fire bath eliminates all the possible bacteria and ailments within the human body.

It is reported that “Every evening as villagers gather, Kalau … lights a bonfire, smokes marijuana and stands on a leg praying to Lord Shiva.”

Well, not a record we are proud of receiving as a country that wants to become 'Swacch Bharat'.
