New Year knocks on our door with a gift of a fresh start every year. It widens the path for new opportunities, new values, new habits, and a rebranded lifestyle. 

However, very few of us can receive the gift. As we have reached the end of the first quarter of the 21st century, it has become our duty to rebrand ourselves. And with these 10 effective New Year resolutions you will make this year. 

1) Measure your goals 

Do not make your New Year's resolution list sound like, “I want to reduce weight,” “I’ll read more.” 

If so, then you are on the wrong track. 

Your goals should be short, simple, time-bound, and measurable. It should sound like: 

  • “I’ll reduce 2 kg in the next two months.” 

  • “I’ll finish one book every month.” 

2) Be the friend you want to have 

Be it your real life or social media, compassion and kindness should regulate your actions and behaviour.  

Try to compliment one person every day, be a good listener in a conversation, and be curious about other’s interests. This way you will feel good about yourself and make others happy as well. 

3) Give your life a philosophical touch 

Philosophy can do wonders for our life. Pick up your religious scriptures or spiritual books. Listen to a spiritual guru or learn about the lives of noble people. Philosophy can be the source of ultimate bliss in your life. 

4) Live in the moment 

If a 10-15-minute meditation session every day feels burdensome to you then 24*7 meditation should be your mantra. How? By living in the moment. 

Allot your entire focus and attention to the work you are doing at any point of the day. Your focus will keep you in meditation mode the entire day. 

5) Manage your funding 

Every time you receive your salary try to allocate a certain portion to a separate fund. Keep that funding for yourself and spend wisely when you need to. 

6) Bring back the vintage traditions 

In the era of social media, you can easily stand out by following some vintage practices. 

Write a letter to your friends or family members once in a while. You can also make some DIY gifts for them. Embrace your inner child and allow yourself to go back to your childhood. 

7) Write down yourself 

If you are suffering from overthinking then it is your time to re-shape your thoughts by grabbing a journal. Writing down your thoughts and emotions not only works as a stress reliever but as a self-assessment report as well. 

8) Get a companion 

Allow a pet or a plant to bring colour into your life. You’ll not only have a trusted companion, but you’ll develop a sense of responsibility towards them and your life as well. 

9) Feel your body 

You do not necessarily have to hit the gym every day. But allow your body to do some physical activity. 

Dancing, going out for a walk with your dog, playing with your kids, cleaning your room- pick up one activity every day and see the magic. 

10) Have a sustainable lifestyle 

Living a sustainable life makes you feel like a contributing member towards the mother earth. On top of that, you get an opportunity to avoid many lifestyle-related physical and mental ailments. 

Lastly, do not forget to be grateful for your life. Do not make New Year's resolutions because you have to. Do it when you genuinely want to be a better version of yourself.
