Balenciaga launches Lay's potato chip handbags costing $1500

If you just finished your Lays' chips packet and threw it ..you might want to reconsider because this is the hottest accessory you would want to have now. So recently, during the Paris fashion week show, Balenciaga revealed its very unexpected yet very real partnership with Frito-Lay - the manufacturer of Lays' Potato Chips.

According to various reports, models who walked during the Balenciaga show called ‘The Mud Show’, carried leather bags that looked like an empty Lays Chips packet. While the outline and design looked exactly like the snack packet, the name of the flavour has been replaced with Balenciaga.

Balenciaga has confirmed that each of these bags has been made of high-gloss leather, and has a silver lining and a zip closure and also a nutrition label printed on the back. The bag will be soon available in stores and will retail for $1,500 each. The bags are available in four flavours which resemble the different varieties of chips available - Classic, Flaming hot, Limon and Salt and Vinegar.

Balenciaga Lays bag

The bag was created by Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia and he was inspired to create it because he loves chips in general and also carried a bag of Lays Chips as an accessory. He is also interested in transforming everyday objects into elevated material innovations. That explains the funky design!

But the Twitterati sure had their day of fun - They were disappointed with the designer's lack of creativity and the price that Balenciaga decided to retail it at. Some even joked that hopefully this bag would be filled with chips all the way to the brim - unlike a standard Lay's packet.   But in order to tide potential buyers until the bags are officially out in stores for sale, the Lays crew also shared a video of the Balenciaga models walking down the runway during the show, with the crumpled bags in their hands.

This is not the first time that Balenciaga has rocked Fashion headlines with its weird designs - Prevsiouly too, it had launched the world's most expensive trash bag which retailed for $1,790. The infamous 'trash pouch' was a handbag that was directly inspired by the humble garbage bag. So much for design sense or perhaps what their patrons want. Only they could tell!
