TATA Group makes yet another splash as it announces plans to hire about 45,000 women in the electronic factory located in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The TATA group has always promoted the concept of diversity and balance of women workforce and this seems to be the case here as well.
Women that will be employed at the Hosur factory in about 18-24 months will receive 40% more than the industry standard, earning a gross salary of about 16,000, according to a report by Bloomberg. The workers will also receive lodging and food on the 500-acre land of the factory. TATA also has plans to educate and train all the workers. The factory already has over 10,000 workers, most of them women. The factory has reported having hired 5,000 workers in September.
This decision has been taken regarding the iPhone component manufacturing factory in Hosur, to get more business from Apple. Tata is also heard to be in discussions with Wistron to establish a tie-up for assembling iPhones in India.
Apple too is looking to expand its manufacturing from China to the world thanks to China's strict Covid-19 lockdowns and constant government tussle. Around 80% of iPhones sold in India are manufactured here as well. However, this is a small fraction of what Apple supplies to the global mobile space. India and the Indian industry are looking to bring in big tech to the nation to increase the number of jobs and expand business opportunities for the MSME sector - and Apple is one of the key pieces in that puzzle.
