Tourist boat capsizes on an Italian lake, claiming 4 lives and leaving several missing

A tourist boat overturned and drowned in a sudden, intense storm, and according to Italian firemen, they pulled out four dead bodies from the lake in northern Italy.

When a whirlwind pushed the boat over on Sunday, it was transporting more than twenty passengers, involving two crew members and a party of international visitors celebrating a birthday.

According to firefighters, 19 people were saved. The boat apparently capsized at Lisanza, at the southern end of Lake Maggiore, although several people managed to swim to land or were rescued by nearby boats.

A Russian national, an Israeli, and two Italians are among the victims.

The Corriere della Sera posted a firefighters' video that showed the helicopter hovering over turbulent waters where chairs and other floating wreckage could be seen.

The second-largest lake in Italy is Lake Maggiore, which is located on the southern slope of the Alps and is a well-liked vacation spot.

Extreme weather-related calamities have recently caused several tragedies in Italy. On May 17, 15 people lost their lives and hundreds were left homeless as a result of 21 rivers bursting their banks as a result of severe storms that caused floods and landslides around the nation, which in turn destroyed or blocked 500 roadways. A further 12 persons were murdered in a landslip on the island of Ischia in the Gulf of Naples in November.
