Toblerone will not use Swiss mountain as a logo anymore

The packaging of the famous Toblerone chocolate bars will no more have the image of the Matterhorn mountain peak. This is because its US owner is moving some production outside of Switzerland. Some of the production is being moved to the Slovakian capital of Bratislava.

Therefore, this step has been taken so as to not violate the Swissness Act. According to Switzerland’s Swissness Act, passed in 2017, national symbols and Swiss crosses are not permitted on the packaging of products that don’t meet Swissness criteria. The packaging will now consist of a more generic mountain rather than the famous Matterhorn mountain.

“The packaging redesign introduces a modernized and streamlined mountain logo that aligns with the geometric and triangular aesthetic,” a Mondelez spokesperson told Aargauer Zeitung.

Apart from the image, the writing is going to be changed to “established in Switzerland,” rather than “of Switzerland.”
